Janis started out with weaving on a rigid heddle loom, learning from books. In 2010, during her second year as president of the Portland Handweavers Guild, Janis decided it would be useful to learn to weave on a floor loom. Little did she realize how obsessed she would become.
Janis has taken weaving workshops from Norma Smayda, Rosalie Nielson, Madelyn van der Hoogt, Sharon Alderman, and Barbara Setsu Pickett. She continues to learn and expand her weaving skills at Ruthie’s Weaving Studio.
